State Classified Employment

The Human Resources Employment Office is responsible for approximately 2200 State Classified positions located primarily on the main campus in Fort Collins but also throughout the state. These positions are regulated by the rules and procedures set forth by the State of Colorado. "Selection is based on quality of performance and job related ability as measured by examinations of competency. All applicants must meet minimum requirements for the vacancy in order to be referred or appointed" (R-4-2).The types of employment available through our office include:

Open Competitive Vacancies

Colorado law requires that candidates for State Classified open-competitive positions be residents of the State of Colorado. For some positions, a polygraph, a background investigation, or a pre-employment physical may be required. Applications for Colorado State University are accepted only when a position is announced. Positions are advertised in the Sunday edition of the Fort Collins Coloradoan. Applicants need to complete a Job Application and whatever supplemental materials may be required. These materials are available at the Human Resource Employment Office. We cannot accept application materials via e-mail, and while faxed copies are acceptable, it is recommended that the originals be mailed under separate cover. Promotional

Promotional opportunities are available to current Colorado State University State Classified employees and former employees who are currently on a Reemployment List (previously certified employee who was laid off for lack of work, lack of funds, or reorganization). Applicants need to complete a Job Application and whatever supplemental materials may be required. These materials are available at the Human Resource Employment Office. We cannot accept application materials via e-mail, and while faxed copies are acceptable, it is recommended that the originals be mailed under separate cover. The Promotional Listings can be found online at jobs.colostate.edu.

Transfer or Reinstatement
  • Transfers: Current state classified employees in the same classification as the vacancy, or in another classification at the same grade maximum or higher, meeting qualifications for the vacancy. Certified transfers retain their status.
  • Reinstatements: Former state classified employees, who have voluntarily left state classified employment, but were certified at the level of the vacancy or in another classification at the same grade maximum or higher, and meeting qualification for the vacancy.

The Transfer/Reinstatement Bulletin is updated weekly, typically by Thursday and can be found online at jobs.colostate.edu.

Academic Faculty and Administrative Professional Employment

Academic Faculty and Administrative Professional positions are handled by the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity. Their jobs can be found online at jobs.colostate.edu.

Non-Student Hourly

It is University policy that non-student hourly employment be restricted to those individuals employed to meet unexpected work loads or other short-term situations. Non-student hourly employment is limited to six months in any twelve month period. This is a per employee limit and all time worked for the University, whether for one department or several, is counted toward the allowance.

Since departments may directly hire non-student hourly employees it is essential that department personnel fully comply with the non-discrimination policy.
