LONGER TERM
GRADUATE SCHOOL IN FRENCH
Most major universities offer Master's programs in French and many offer doctorates as well.
With an M.A. in French you can: teach high school and community college, work in translation and business. A Ph.D. in French is usually persued as preparation for a career in college or university teaching.
There are many types of programs available, including specializations in translation/interpretation, linguistics, second-language acquisition/ pedagogy, French Studies (civilization), Francophone literatures and cultures. Priority dates for fall application can be as early as January 1. Some schools offer teaching assistantships that help pay tuition and provide a stipend to live on. Ask your advisor about specific programs that would suit your needs and interests.
GRADUATE SCHOOL IN OTHER FIELDS
Students with majors or minors in French have chosen a variety of other fields for further study, including law school, business, international studies and TESOL/TESL.

The French Ministry of Education offers up to 1,500 teaching assistantship positions in French primary and secondary schools and Instituts universitaires de formation des maîtres in all parts of France & DOM-TOM to persons who fulfill all of the following criteria: (1) American citizen (or green card); (2) 20 - 34 years of age; (3) currently pursuing or have already attained a college degree; (4) proficient in French.
Dec. to Feb. 1 at the latest : candidate mails the application to the French Embassy in Wash , D.C.
