Interdisciplinary M.A.
The Interdisciplinary MA combines the study of language, literature and culture including application of their critical methodologies, with the study of another field in the humanities such as art, education, history, psychology, anthropology, english (if not in Joint Program) etcetera*. It enables students to broaden the scope of their studies and to develop an interdisciplinary approach appropriate to the critical examination of the fields they have chosen. The Interdisciplinary MA should be undertaken only by students who already have a strong interest AND preparation in the
collateral field.
* Other fields must be approved by graduate coordinator, thesis advisor or chair.
Students pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Languages, Literatures and Cultures under the Interdisciplinary MA must earn a minimum of 32 semester credits. Course work must include a minimum of 21 credits in the language or literature of specialization and at least 9 credits earned in approved course work in a supporting field. Students electing this option must also demonstrate a reading knowledge of a second foreign language, write an interdisciplinary master's paper or thesis, and pass written and oral examinations, which shall have a focus appropriate to the interdisciplinary emphasis of the program of study.The Interdisciplinary MA may not be used to complete the undergraduate requirements for a teacher's certificate, but may be used to study certain graduate courses from the TESL program.
