Entomology List Servers

 To take part in group discussions on entomology by electronic mail, there are some good selections of Entomology list servers available (if you feel a little overwhelmed by the list below, try ENTOMO-L to get started).

 ACAROLOGY This list pertains to the ACARI (mites and ticks). Subscribe by sending "subscribe acarology" (in the text part of the message) to listserver@nhm.ac.uk. This command must NOT be sent to the list address "acarology@nhm.ac.uk". Please remember NOT to add a signature to your message. Leave the list by sending "unsubscribe acarology" to "listserver@nhm.ac.uk". Send a "help" command to "listserver@nhm.ac.uk" for information on listserver commands. The contact person for the list is Dr. Zhi-Qiang Zhang (Z.Zhang@nhm.ac.uk).

 ANNELIDA To join, send the message subscribe annelida to biosci-server@net.bio.net.

 ARACHNID To subscribe, send a message to majordomo@bga.com where Jane Doe is your real name and jdoe@anyplace.edu is your e-mail address. The first line of your message should read subscribe arachnid "Jane Doe" jdoe@anyplace.edu and the last line of your message should contain the single word end.

 ARACHNOLOGY To subscribe, send a message to majordomo@ufsia.ac.be with subscribe arachnology on one line and end on the next line.

 BCREGS-L This list concerns the proposed rule which will regulate the application of biological control in the United States (7 CFR 335 Plant Pests: Introduction of Nonindigenous Organisms: Proposed Rule). To join, send e-mail to LISTSERV@UAFSYSB.UARK.EDU with a blank subject line and body text consisting of SUBSCRIBE BCREGS-L JANE DOE where Jane Doe is your real name. The list is maintained by Tim Kring (tkring@comp.uark.edu) of the University of Arkansas.

 BEE-L This list provides a format for discussion of bee research and biology. Subjects include sociobiology, behavior, ecology, genetics, taxonomy, physiology, pollination, and many others. The contact person for the list is Mary Jo Orzech (mjo@brock1p.bitnet). To subscribe, send an e-mail message to LISTSERV@UACSC2.ALBANY.EDU with body text consisting of "SUBSCRIBE BEE-L Jane Doe" where Jane Doe is your real name. You will receive further instructions from the listserver.

 BIOCONTROL-L is maintained in Brazil. Subscription to this list can be done by sending the message SUBSCRIBE BIOCONTROL-L [Your name] to listserv@ftpt.br. Contact Sidnei de Souza (sidnei@ftpt.br) for more information.

 BIODICEN-L is a listserver for the proposed U.S. National Biodiversity Information Center. To subscribe, send the message "SUBSCRIBE BIODICEN-L firstname lastname" to listserv@ucjeps.berkeley.edu (or for direct communication with a real person, e-mail to listserv-request@ucjeps.berkeley.edu).

 BOMBUS is dedicated to bumblebees. To subscribe, send a message to bombus-request@csi.uottawa.ca. To send a message to everyone on the list, mail it to bombus@csi.uottawa.ca). The Bombus list is maintained by Chris Plowright (plowright@csi.uottawa.ca)

 BUGNET has been formed to meet the need for a "non-professional" entomology mailing list, i.e. to serve as a resource for teachers and bug enthusiasts to ask questions to professional entomologists. To subscribe, send an email message to listproc@listproc.wsu.edu with a blank subject line and body text consisting of "subscribe bugnet John Doe" where John Doe is your real name. For messages to the subscribers, send to bugnet@listproc.wsu.edu

 CHEMECOL is available for discussion about chemical ecology. You can join by sending email to listserv@iqm.unicamp.br, with the message subscribe chemecol your name. COLEOPTERA discussion group is available at http://www.egroups.com/list/coleoptera/ on the World Wide Web.

 DPLEX-L is for use by teachers, researchers, students and others interested in the Monarch Watch and/or monarch biology. Contact Julie Ellis at JELLIS@KUHUB.CC.UKANS.EDU for more information.

 ELECTROPHY is for insect electrophysiology (peripheral and central). To subscribe, send a message to electrophy-request@quasimodo.versailles.inra.fr with body text "join". This list is maintained by marion@versailles.inra.fr. All messages sent to the list should be sent to electrophy@quasimodo.versailles.inra.fr.  ENT-CHN is intended for discussion among Chinese entomologists. Those interested in joining ENT-CHN should send e-mail to listserv@listserv.tamu.edu with the message SUBSCRIBE ENT-CHN JANE DOE (where JANE DOE is your real name).

 ENTOLAT is for discussion on Latin American insects. Send the message subscribe entolat your-name (where your-name is your real name) to majordomo@shaddam.usb.ve.

 ENTOMO-L is maintained at the University of Guelph in Canada, and pertains to entomology in general. To join the list, send an e-mail message with a blank subject line to listserv@listserv.uoguelph.ca with the text as follows: SUB ENTOMO-L YOUR-NAME (where YOUR-NAME is your full name). You will then receive regular messages on entomological topics (usually about 1-2 dozen per day) from other members in the group.

 ENTOMOLOGIA is available for discussions of entomology in Spanish.

 FORENT is for forest entomologists. To subscribe, contact dbergdahl@clover.uvm.edu. To use the list, send messages to FORENT@Trillium.uvm.edu.

 INSECTPHYSIOL is for insect physiologists, biochemists, toxicologists, and molecular biologists. To join, send an email message with a blank subject line to listproc@msstate.edu with the text as follows: subscribe insectphysiol Your-Name (where Your-Name is your full name, NOT your email address). Do not include a signature block at the bottom.

 MICRO-SAT is for discussion on microsatellite markers in arthropods, including laboratory protocols, data analysis and exchange of primer sequences. The list is maintained by Thomas_Chapman@SFU.ca.

MOLA is a print newsletter (not currently on-line) by and for those interested in beetle immatures, produced by Paul Johnson (px53@sdsumus.sdstate.edu) at South Dakota State University.

 MOSQUITO-L is for the discussion of topics related to mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae). Send an e-mail message to MOSQUITO-L-REQUEST@IASTATE.EDU with the word SUBSCRIBE in the body of the message (subject field will be ignored). If your e-mail program automatically adds your signature to the end of your message, put the word END on a separate line after the word SUBSCRIBE. Once you are subscribed to Mosquito-L, sending a message to MOSQUITO-L@IASTATE.EDU will send your message to all the subscribers. If you prefer a digest version, send a message to MOSQUITO-L-DIGEST-REQUEST@IASTATE.EDU with the word SUBSCRIBE in the body of the message, and the word END on the next line.  NEMA-L To join, send the message subscribe nema-l Your Name to listserv@unl.edu. NEMA-L is maintained by Allen Szalanski (aszalans@unlinfo.unl.edu) and Tom Powers (tpowers@unlinfo.unl.edu).

 MOTH@GYPSY is a listserver that is dedicated to exchange of information about the gypsy moth world-wide. You can subscribe by sending a message to listserv@gypsy.fsl.wvnet.edu with ' subscribe moth "your name" ' in the body of the message. Alternatively, if your WWW browser has forms support, you can subscribe just by clicking here.

 NEUROPTERA-L is a list server for lacewings, alder flies, snake flies, mantis flies, ant-lions, and their kin. To subscribe, contact Majordomo@cardiff.ac.uk and send the message SUBSCRIBE NEUROPTERA-L. The list is maintained by Peter McEwen (SABPKM1@CARDIFF.ac.uk) at Cardiff in the United Kingdom.

 PARAHYM is dedicated to all aspects of the study of parasitic Hymenoptera. Subscribe by sending "subscribe parahym" (in the text part of the message) to listserver@nhm.ac.uk. This command must NOT be sent to the list address "parahym@nhm.ac.uk". Please remember NOT to add a signature to your message.  PRP is devoted to the exchange of information on meetings, conferences, and germplasm accessions relating to plant resistance to arthropod and plant pathogens. To subscribe, send a message to listserv@ksuvm.ksu.edu with the single line SUB PRP Firstname Lastname. To send messages to the group, use PRP@KSUVM.KSU.EDU.

 SCORPION-ENTHUSIASTS can be joined by sending the message "SUBSCRIBE Scorpion-Enthusiasts your.name.here" to majordomo@wrbu.si.edu.

 SIMULIIDAE is maintained by the British Simuliid Group (BSG). Join by sending email to mailbase@mailbase.ac.uk, with the message "join simuliidae your-firstname(s) lastname stop". You can email T.R. Williams at sp36@liv.ac.uk for more information. Ensure that your usual mail address appears in the 'From:' field of your message, or Mailbase won't recognise you (more on Mailbase is available by WWW or gopher).

 STORED_PRODUCT_MG is available for discussion about post-harvest issues. To subscribe, send a message to almanac@ecn.purdue.edu. You do not need a subject heading. The ONLY thing in your message should be the following single line (lowercase): subscribe stored_product_mg. The Almanac server will read this line, take your address (which it will find in the header), and add your address to the mail group.

 SCORPION-ENTHUSIASTS can be joined by sending the message "SUBSCRIBE Scorpion-Enthusiasts your.name.here" to majordomo@wrbu.si.edu.

 SYRPHID can be joined by sending the message "SUBSCRIBE syrphidae (your name here)" to majordomo@nottingham.ac.uk. Messages are posted to syrphidae@nottingham.ac.uk.
