Recent Awards and Prizes for MFA Students
We're pleased to congratulate the following students and alumni on their national recognition.
Aaron Abeyeta's (1997) first collection of poetry, Colcha, received an American Book Award for 2002, and his poem "Colcha" received a grand prize from the Academy of American Poets.
Nicole Backens' (2004) short story "The Disciple of Because" was selected on the national level as a winner of the AWP Intro Journal Awards, and will appear in Shenandoah.
Steve Church (2001) received a 2003 Colorado Council on the Arts Fellowship in Nonfiction.
Janell Cress (2004) took second place in Playboy's College Fiction Contest in 2002.
Jeff Faas (2003) received first prize in The Atlantic's Student Fiction Contest for his short story "My Father's House", as well as an honorable mention for his nonfiction piece "Five Years to Life." Look for Jeff's name in the May 2003 issue of The Atlantic. Last year, CSU student Emily Wortman-Wunder (2003) received an honorable mention for her fiction in The Atlantic's contest.
Jacqueline Lyons (1999) received an NEA in Poetry for 2003.

in Short Fiction sponsored by Ohio State University Press
and the MFA Program in Creative Writing at OSU.
