Scholarships and Fellowships
The CSU Scholarship Application will be available on-line beginning December 1, 2007. The deadline is March 1, 2007 at 11:00 pm. Mountain Standard Time. Go to RamPoint and select the RAMweb tab, login using your eID, and then select CSU Scholarship Application.
In addition you must arrange to have the following sent to the College of Liberal Arts (C138 Clark) postmarked by March 1, 2007.
This year, the College is accepting email letters of recommendation. They must originate from the submitting teacher/faculty member’s email address and be sent to cladean@colostate.edu. Please include “Letter of Recommendation” in the subject line. Letters of recommendation also may be sent to Gloria Blumanhourst in the Dean's Office, Campus Mail #1701, or delivered to C138 Clark. The deadline for these additional materials is also March 1, 2007.
Creative and Performing Arts Scholarship
Undergraduates may submit 3-5 poems OR one short story OR one creative essay. The Creative Writing Faculty of the English Department determine the winners. The deadline is always the first week in October and the winners are announced in early November. The categories include Fiction, Nonfiction and Poetry.
Criteria: Applicant must maintain a GPA of at least 2.4; enrolled full time (12 credits).

Cross-Cultural Understanding Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by the English Department and the Intensive English Program.
Criteria: Applicant must be an undergraduate English major with 60 credits or a graduate English major with 15 credits prior to receiving the award (at least two semesters remaining). Selection is based upon a demonstrated commitment to international/cross-cultural issues and education, a GPA of at least 3.0 (undergraduate) or 3.25 GPA (graduate) and demonstrated financial need.

Judith A. Dean Memorial Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was created in memory of Judith A. Dean, a graduate in the master’s program in the Department of English, and prominent professional in the English Teaching field and the organizations that support it. Criteria: Applicant must be a declared English major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

James J. Garvey Undergraduate English Language Scholarship
This scholarship is made possible by English Department emeritus professor, James J. Garvey.
Criteria: Documented interest and coursework (at least six credit hours) in English Language (declared language concentration, teaching licensure concentration, or courses: Introduction to the Study of Language; English Language for Teacher I and/or II; Development of the English Language; and Teaching English as a Second Language. An interest in diversity must be demonstrated. First generation status preferred. Demonstrated financial need and GPA 3.3 in related courses. Transfer students and English minors are eligible to apply if they have the course equivalents.

Donna Weyrick Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1991, these two scholarships honor the memory of Donna Weyrick, a 1962 alumna in the Department of English. These endowed scholarships are made possible by contributions from the Weyrick family and friends.
Criteria: Each recipient must be a declared English major with 60 credits completed prior to receiving the award, have at least two semesters remaining, possess exemplary character, have a GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrated financial need.

TESL/TEFL Scholarship
This scholarship is given to an outstanding student in the TESL/TEFL graduate program, funded by the English Department and the Intensive English Program.
Criteria: Admitted to TESL/TEFL graduate program, 2 years TESL/TEFL teaching experience, 3.25 undergraduate GPA and demonstrated financial need.

Ann Zimdahl Memorial Scholarship
The two Zimdahl Memorial Scholarships are awarded in memory of Ann Osborn Zimdahl, a 1981 graduate of the Colorado State University M.A. TESL/TEFL program. Ann taught in the Intensive English Program and contributed to the international community of the University and Fort Collins. Ann was strongly committed to cross-cultural understanding and enthusiastically shared her love of new cultures with her students both here and abroad.
Criteria: 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need.
One award is given to an outstanding graduate student in the TESL/TEFL program who is committed to international education and language teaching for the second year of study.
The other award is given to an outstanding graduate student in their first year of study in any program in English.

The Creative Writing Fellowship Fund was created to honor William Tremblay and Mary Crow, two distinguished faculty members of the MFA program in CSU’s English Department. Each year, two $2,000 merit-based fellowships, titled the Tremblay-Crow Fellowships, will be awarded to incoming MFA students whose writing shows exceptional promise, or to continuing students who are contributing members of the MFA program and whose writing has shown exceptional growth. One $2,000 fellowship will be awarded to a fiction writer and one $2,000 will be awarded to a poet. Fellowship recipients shall not have graduate teaching assistantships in the English Department. Students do not need to complete an application. Recipients will be selected by the Creative Writing Committee.
The Literature Fellowship Fund was created to honor Charles Smith and Edward Schamberger, two distinguished emeritus faculty members of the CSU’s English Department. Each year, one $1,000 merit-based fellowship, titled the Smith-Schamberger Fellowship, will be awarded to an incoming graduate student in literature whose work shows exceptional promise, or to a continuing student who is a contributing member of the Literature program. Current graduate students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Fellowship recipients shall not have graduate teaching assistantships in the English Department. Students do not need to complete an application. Recipients will be selected by the Literature Committee.
