MFA Student and Alumni Accomplishments

Recent student and alumni accomplishments include publications in The Atlantic, Quarterly West, Prairie Schooner, Indiana Review, Another Chicago Magazine (ACM), Writer's Forum, High Plains Literary Review, William and Mary Review, the Journal, and Many Mountains Moving, as well as book publications by Cleveland State University Press, Coffee House Press, Simon & Schuster, University of Georgia Press, Wesleyan University Press. Awards include the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, several New Letters Awards, the Martin Luther King Award, several Colorado Council on the Arts Fellowships, AWP Intro Awards, an NEA grant, and a Four Way Books Intro Prize in poetry. We're pleased to congratulate the following students and alumni on their national recognition.

  • Oz Spies’s (fiction, 2003) story “The Love of a Strong Man,” was selected for Best American Mystery Stories 2005, to be released in Fall 05 by Houghton Mifflin.
  • Church The Guinness Book of Me - A Memoir of Record
    by Steven Church
    Coming Spring, 2005 from Simon and Schuster
  • Evelina Galang (1994) won the 2004 Award for the Novel from the Associated Writing Programs. Her book One Tribe will be published by New Issues Press.
  • Jen Dick's(1999) won the 2004 Contemporary Poetry Series Contest from the University of Georgia Press. Her collection Fluorescence was published by the University of Georgia Press in Fall 2004.
  • The Freestone, the Department's alumni magazine, and the Alumni Newsletter, a web publication, provides information about the work of students and faculty over the past several years.
