The English Department encourages experiential education by offering elective credit for internships. Off-campus internships require advisor approval and consultation with the internship coordinator. Deanna Ludwin (334 Eddy) has contract forms and information about possible placements. A wide variety of experience is possible: work in a Public Defender's office, technical writing for engineering firms, summer newspaper reporting, public library research, writing and editing newsletters and brochures for non-profit agencies, designing and teaching summer enrichment classes for children, working at a public television station, etc. You may generate your own position in fields of interest as well as pursue established local, regional or national internships.
You may also earn internship credit by completing sections of E687 offered within the Department. These include E687B: Composition Administration, E687C: Literary Editing (Colorado Review, the Freestone, or the Nieve Roja Review), and E687I: ESL - Supervision and Administration.
Credit for each internship varies from one to three hours with about 40 hours of work used for each credit hour. Up to six credits can count toward the degree, although some students choose to take additional credits over and above the degree requirements.
For information about course offerings and registration procedures for the upcoming semester or summer session, please view the Rambler, the Department's student newsletter.
