Preliminary Written Examinations

Preliminary written examinations vary in format according to your program. Currently, preliminary written examinations are required for the MA in English Education and the MA in Literature. If you are enrolled in one of these programs, you must pass the preliminary written exam before taking final oral exam on your thesis or independent study project. The English Department has examination guides for each program of study that requires a comprehensive exam:
