E605, Reading/Writing Connections

This course looks at reading and writing theories and the intersections between these theories and pedagogies from selected perspectives, drawn from:

  1. cognitive or socio-cognitive
  2. reader-response
  3. discourse-community
  4. deconstruction
  5. critical literacy
  6. cultural studies
  7. feminist
  8. classical rhetoric

Class discussions and writing assignments enable students to analyze the various theories presented, to critique arguments and methodologies encountered in the readings, and, ultimately, to synthesize personal and practical implications of the theories for writers and teachers of writing.
