This course covers the folklore of various regional and ethnic groups and the folklore of both sexes of the United States. Particular attention is paid to Mexican-American folklore and Indian folklore. An important focus in the course is to show how all groups have and use various kinds of folklore, not just rural, back woodsy types. The connections of folklore and literature are explored, and several novels are discussed with special emphasis placed on the ways in which the novel portrays culture in general and folklore specifically.
