E330 Images of Women in Literature
This course foregrounds issues of perspective and expectation, particularly in relation to gender, that readers bring with them to the task of reading. It also explores historical processes at work in representations of gender.Students read selected writings by men and women in the Western literary tradition chosen from a variety of time periods, authors, and genres. The course will address the continuities and discontinuities of our literary heritage from a feminist perspective, and will ask the students to engage in an ongoing process of "revisioning" texts, reading, and writing.
