E275 Introduction to British Literature
E275 introduces the study of British literature by examining major works/major writers from Beowulf to William Butler Yeats. By means of significant reading assignments, close reading, in-class discussion, and one significant or a number of shorter writing assignments, E275 examines the literary foundations of British literature by placing major works in historical and critical contexts and tracing literary movements and developments when appropriate.Reading lists will include most or all of the following:
Beowulf
Instructors may supplement these works and writers with others, but no more than two major works will normally be covered in any one period.
