Certificate in English as a Second/Foreign Language Teaching

In addition to the MA in TESL, the English Department offers a Certificate in English Language Teaching. The certificate is granted after completion of the 17 to 19 credit core of the MA program. The certificate is not a well-defined qualification for any specific type of English language teaching but may be an asset in finding a position teaching English in classroom settings in the US or in foreign countries.

Completion of the Certificate in English Language Teaching requires the candidate to be accepted into the MA program and, therefore, to meet all of the academic requirements for such admission.

It should be emphasized that the Certificate in English Language Teaching is not a certification to teach in the public school system in Colorado. Teaching in the public schools requires teacher licensure and endorsement in English as a Second Language teaching. Endorsement is a separate qualification that is not currently offered by Colorado State University.

For information about course offerings and registration procedures for the upcoming semester or summer session, please view the Rambler, the Department's student newsletter.
