Graduate Study

To apply to the MFA Program in Creative Writing in Fiction or Poetry:

Complete the online Graduate School Application Form and submit the $50.00 application fee. To complete your application, please send the following to the English Department:

    1. Two official transcripts from each college or university you have attended
    2. Three or more letters of recommendation from instructors or employers
    3. A statement of purpose-your goals for graduate school (one page, single-spaced)
    4. A writing sample in the genre to which you would like to be admitted—either Poetry, 12 – 20 pages of poems; or Fiction, two short stories OR two chapters of a novel
    5. If you are a non-native speaker of English, either recent TOEFL or IELTS official scores
    6. Optional: the application for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship. The Department's GTA Application Form is available in Portable Document Format
    7. Send these documents to:

Please note that GRE scores are no longer required unless the applicant has earned an undergraduate GPA of less than 3.0. We only accept applications for the Fall semester. The deadline for applications is December 15.
