LEAVE-WITHOUT-PAY POLICY

Assumption:

That decentralized budgeting remains in place so freed funds are returned to the department

Decision factors:

1) Quality substitutions for teaching or advising assignments must be available.

2) The applicant must present a personal or professional rationale.

3) Given that departmental teaching, advising, and service missions must be adequately served, priority for leaves-without-pay will balance programmatic concerns and financial viability with individual needs. Those who have not had leaves recently will have priority over those who have. Except in cases of extreme personal hardship, those applying for leaves-without-pay should notify the Chair by September 10 and observe the same paperwork deadlines enforced for sabbatical applications.
