of New Mexico.
Specialist in Western American literature. Editor
of the critical edition of Jack Schaefer's Shane; editor of
prize-winning anthology, Prose and Poetry of the American
West; author of prize-winning book of essays, Following Where
the River Begins. Recent work includes a fiction anthology,
Gunfight!, two western novels, Ride South to Purgatory and
Ride West to Dawn as well as a mystery novel, The Tobermory
Manuscript. His forthcoming work includes Ride to Banshee
Canyon and A Title to Murder. Professor Work teaches various
courses in Western American literature; won 1992 College of
Liberal Arts Excellence in Teaching Award. Former executive
officer in Western Literature Association, Colorado Seminars
in Literature, and Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association.
