Debby Thompson

Associate Professor. B.A., English (with Honors), University of Florida; M.A. and Ph.D., English, Rice University.

Identifying dually as both a literary critic and a creative nonfiction writer, Debby Thompson writes critically and creatively about, appropriately, the problem of identity. Her critical essays, focusing on racial, gender, and sexual identity in the U.S., have appeared in a variety of journals and essay collections, including African American Review, College Literature, Theatre Journal, MELUS, and Studies in Twentieth-Century Literature. Her creative nonfiction credits include Alligator Juniper, Fourth Genre, The Missouri Review, Calyx, and The Florida Review. She is the winner of the 2008 Missouri Review Editor’s Prize in the creative nonfiction category. She teaches courses in modern drama, literary criticism, and cultural studies.
