Bruce Ronda Professor
and Chair. B.A., English, Hope College; M. Phil., Ph.D., American
Studies, Yale University.
Professor Ronda teaches American literature and
culture, particularly of the nineteenth century. He is the
author of journal articles and reviews in Emerson Society
Quarterly, American Transcendental Quarterly, and other journals.
Professor Ronda is the editor of The Letters of Elizabeth
Palmer Peabody, American Renaissance Woman (1984), and the
author of Intellect and Spirit: The Life and Work of Robert
Coles, Discourse of American Literature, and Elizabeth Palmer
Peabody, A Reformer on Her Own Terms, the last published in
1999 by Harvard University Press. He is currently working
on two manuscripts, one on the history of early American writing
for children, the other a study of visual and verbal representations
of John Brown.
