David Mogen

Professor Mogen teaches literature of the West,
Native American literature, science fiction, and special topics
in frontier mythology and science-related literature. He is
especially interested in mythological approaches to American
literature and literature about science. Professor Mogen has
published four books, including Wilderness Visions
(about frontier mythology in American science fiction, 1982;
expanded and revised Second Edition, 1993) and Ray Bradbury
(1986), as well as two edited anthologies of original essays,
The Frontier Experience & the American Dream
(1989); and Frontier Gothic (1992). In 1994, the
University recognized the fine quality of his contributions
to research, teaching, and service by awarding him its Pennock
Distinguished Service Award.
In addition to his ongoing academic publications,
he has recently published his first personal essay, "Circle
in the Snow" (1999), and is completing a collection of
personal essays and poetry, Honyocker Dreams.
