National Accreditation

National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education

  • CSU is one of 602 NCATE accredited institutions in the country.
  • NCATE's dual mission is accountability and improvement in teacher preparation.
  • In NCATE accredited schools, "the new professional teacher gains a broad liberal arts education; an in-depth study of the content to be taught; a foundation of professional knowledge on which to base decisions; diverse, well-planned clinical experience in P-12 schools; an evaluation of readiness to practice through many measures of performance; the ability to use knowledge in practice" (NCATE).
  • For job-seekers, NCATE accreditation means:
    • "Teacher candidates who graduate from NCATE-accredited schools will be better prepared for initial licensing and advanced board certification.
    • Many states have reciprocity agreements based on graduation from NCATE-accredited schools, so graduates of NCATE-accredited schools will generally find it easier to apply for license when they move out of state" (NCATE).
  • Why NCATE?
  • The NCATE continuing accreditation visit occurred on November 16-20, 2002 for CSU.
  • March 2003: We were informed by NCATE's Unit Accreditation Board that accreditation has been continued for the professional education unit at Colorado State University. SPECIAL THANKS and Congratulations is extended to our faculty, P-12 school partners, and education candidates!
