clean it up!Pesticide Disposal Q&A

How do I get rid of unwanted pesticides?

Pesticide disposal is an important part of your responsibilities as a pesticide user. The Colorado ChemSweep Pesticide Disposal Program is currently the easiest way to get rid of unwanted pesticides.

Why Should I Participate?

Unused, unwanted, or banned pesticides are dangerous to keep on your premises. It is smart to participate in a pesticide pick-up program that will lower your liability and the danger these pesticides present to the environment. In addition,

  • Using ChemSweep is significantly more economical than disposing of hazardous waste yourself.
  • ChemSweep handles all regulatory agencies and has all the relevant permits.
  • Pick-up minimizes your liability for any environmental or human contamination.
  • Pick ups are made twice per year, in March and October, and you can register continuously.

Who Can Participate?

Any agribusiness, including farmers, ranchers, private individuals, commercial applicators, golf courses, greenhouses or nurseries who apply or store pesticides in Colorado.

What Kinds of Pesticides Will ChemSweep Pick Up?

Any unwanted, unusable, or banned materials that are classified as a pesticide. Examples of waste pesticides that have been collected include: DDT, chlordane, carbaryl, alachlor, lead arsenate, lindane, dinoseb, calcium cyanide, chloropicrin, 2,4-D, etc. Containers with unknown contents may require obtaining a sample for analysis.

How Much Does it Cost?

ChemSweep charges $3 per pound and has a minimum charge of $200. Materials are weighed on certified digital scales. You are charged based on the weight of the waste before it is packaged for transport.

How Can I Get Started?

  1. Use the ChemSweep Brochure to find out more about the program, or distribute it to others who need help with pesticide disposal.
  2. Use the ChemSweep Registration Form to request a pick up.
