GEESE

Geese cause considerable conflicts by defecating on golf courses, parks, and other urban areas.  Canada geese prefer Kentucky blue grass over tall fescue, thus, planting tall fescue may deter some geese.

If permitted, Screamer shells, can successfully frighten Canada geese from urban areas.  Scarecrows, Av-Alarms, and Mylar tape have reduced the use of fields by geese.  Goose alarm calls did not frighten Canada geese from urban areas in Fort Collins.

Translocation of flightless geese to a distant site has been used to control nuisance urban populations in many states.  Few geese returned to the capture site.

Two foot diameter balloons have been filled with helium and suspended with 50-75 pound monofilament line above fields to frighten waterfowl.  Black and also white plastic cut into 2 by 3 or 2.5 by 5 foot rectangles and attached to 4 foot tall laths so that they move in a breeze can repel waterfowl from fields.  One flag per acre is recommended where waterfowl have been damaging fields and 1 flag per 5 acres is recommended where waterfowl have not yet arrived.

ReJeX-iTtm and Bird Shield (methyl anthranilate) are registered for repelling Canada geese from golf courses and turf areas.  The products have repelled geese for relatively short periods (about 4 days) and are relatively expensive.
