A quarantine prohibiting the importation and planting of nectarines and white-flesh peaches has been in effect since 1947. This quarantine prohibits the planting of symptomless carriers of this disease. Trees which show symptoms when infected with PMV, can be identified and destroyed.
The quarantine, modified on May 3, 1998, allows freestone nectarines and peaches which exhibit symptoms of PMV to be planted. The following cultivars have been approved for planting in Mesa County.
