Master Gardener Scholarship Program
The Tri River Area Master Gardener Scholarship program affords Advanced Master Gardeners the opportunity to receive financial support when attending workshops and programs that further their education in horticulture or gardening.
In order to be eligible for scholarship assistance, a Tri River Area Master Gardener must have been in the Tri River Area Advanced program at least one full year. Requests for financial assistance are reviewed by a committee of Advanced Master Gardeners. The $500 per Master Gardener per year limit helps cover registration fees and overnight expenses. Tri River Area Advanced Master Gardeners have utilized these funds to attend training in water gardening, tree appraisal, herb production, and greenhouse production techniques. Scholarship applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The scholarship program was funded with a $1000 start-up grant provided by Curtis E. Swift, Area Extension Horticulture Agent with additional funding generated by programs conducted on an annual basis by the Tri River Area Advanced Master Gardeners. A $500 contribution was received in 1995 from the Desert Visa Garden Club in Grand Junction. Fund raisers coordinated by the Master Gardeners have provided continuing funding for these scholarships. The Annual Tree and Shrub Auction, sponsored by local nurseries and garden centers is the major fund raiser for the scholarship fund.
