Deodar and Blue Atlas Cedar, Bald Cypress, Incense Cedar, Osage Orange, Dawn Redwood, Giant Redwood, Chitalpa, Magnolias,
Purple Robe Locust, 'Red Fox' Katsura, Golden Chain Tree, 'Red Cascade' Mountain Ash, Purple Beech, and many other trees
and shrubs, ornamental grasses and perennial and annual flowers are in the Mesa County Arboretum collection.

The following photos show the development of the planting areas immediately next to the BMX fence and between the far west gardens and the engraved flagstones. The Bacon Family Foundation provided the funds needed to complete this planting area and the one immediately to the north. This grant was coordinated by the Western Colorado Garden.

The area was weeded one more time and more plants added.

The above photo shows the finished product after new plants were added and mulch applied. Metal edging was installed and a new layer of decomposed granite was added to the walkway.

Below are photos of the planting area immediately north of the previous set of photos. This area also was able to be completed as a result of the Bacon Family Foundation grant. Mesa Magic compost was tilled in, a Chitalpa and 'Purple Robe' Locust were planted, shrubs and flowers were added and the area was mulched.

Planting the 'Purple Robe' Locust. The root ball was held in place by driving three sharpened two-foot dowels through the root ball and into the underlying undisturbed soil.
