Weeding for Comfort

A 5-gallon bucket makes a great seat when weeding. For extra comfort, a small seat pad can be used. These buckets, often free from local bakeries or supermarkets (they are empty frosting containers), also make an excellent tool tote.

Attractive Containers for Clippings

A large decorative container makes a great place to keep garden clippings, keeping weeds separate. When the container fills, toss all the vegetative matter into your compost bin. Using a separate container for weeds may reduce future problems with weed seed germination. Discard the weeds with the weekly trash.

Sun protection while weeding

A beach umbrella provides outstanding shade if you’re weeding in the heat of the day. “Plant” the umbrellas handle into the ground and weed away under the shade. Don’t forget to drink ample water to prevent dehydration.

Larimer County Farmers’ Market starts July 8!

New at the Larimer County Farmers’ Market this year is Little Sprout’s Day! Little Sprout’s Day will be held the first Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., starting July 8. All children under the age of 10 are welcome to participate in this monthly event. Have your children create fun crafts on gardening and environmental topics—all for free! The Market is held at the Oak Street Parking Lot, off of Remington, between Oak and Olive in Old Town Fort Collins.
