Planting in the heat of the summer
Wait for a cloudy day or overcast day. Planting when sunny can cause the plant stress, and increase transpiration rates. If you plant late in the afternoon or early evening, it allows the plants to establish with cooler temperatures.

Are you planting containerized plants? Try dunking the container in water just before planting to ensure the plant is well-watered before you put it in the ground. After soaking, remove plant from bucket and let drain. After you plant make sure the new plants receive sufficient water.

Pre-Moisten Peat Moss
When using peat moss, it is a good idea to dampen the moss first. When working with dry peat, the material can become airborne. To avoid getting the peat in your lungs, it is advised that you wear a mask.

Open the peat moss and pour enough hot water into the bag to make the peat damp. Close the bag overnight and allow the peat moss to soak up the water. Check the next day to ensure the peat is sufficiently damp. Use a large garbage can to store the moist peat. When you’re ready to use the peat moss in your garden, add the pre-moistened peat to the soil. Damp peat tends to mix with the soil more evenly.
