Meat Judging

Are You Ready to Defend Your Decison?

What: The Meat Judging contest gives members the chance to develop their beef, lamb, and pork evaluation skills through retail cut identification and class placings. Furthermore, participants learn how to defend their placings through oral reasons.

Who: Any 4-H member may participate, regardless of what project they are taking. Participants will be placed in their designated age group, Juniors (ages 8-13) and Seniors (ages 14-18).

When: Practice is held once a week. Members can participate in the Douglas County/CSU Invitational in April and the State 4-H Contest in May.

Awards: Top teams and individuals will be recognized at each contest.

National Competition: The Champion team at the State 4-H Contest will compete at the National 4-H Meat Contest at the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City in October/November. The Reserve Champion team will compete at the Western National Roundup at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO in January.

Western National Roundup information can be attained at their NWSS Roundup site.
