Recently, I found myself scouring through some ag statistics for
the five Golden Plains Area counties. (Kit Carson, Phillips, Sedgwick,
Washington, and Yuma) I was hoping that I could use the newly released 2008
Colorado Ag Statistics and the newly released 2007 USDA Ag Census numbers to
compare acres of rangeland and pasture as well as beef cow numbers with the
older data that was reported as a result of the 2002 USDA Ag Census. My search
took on a life of its own and I made a spreadsheet that compares the
differences in livestock areas. This spreadsheet also has inventory numbers for
some species in 2007 that were previously unavailable. Considering the
importance of the livestock industry on the economy and livelihood of those
living in the Golden Plains Area I wanted to make this spreadsheet available to
you. I hope you find this information useful.
It is important to note
that (D) indicates that the data is not reported. This will have an
effect on total values. In some cases the USDA makes a determination that there
are too few producers in a given species to report the number. As an example,
assume in your county there were 750 hogs listed and only two swine producers.
You happen to be one of those two producers and have 50 hogs. You could easily
figure out that the other swine producer owns 700 hogs. The USDA hopes to
safeguard the privacy rights of producers in this type of scenario and does not
report all available data.
Total Livestock $$$ represents the total
dollar value of cash receipts from livestock sales.
A number in (),
means a reduction in inventory numbers since 2002. In other words, (4,500)
represents that there were 4,500 head of beef cows less in Kit Carson county in
2007 when compared to 2002.

Recientemente, me encontré el fregar con algunas
estadísticas del AG para los cinco condados de Golden Plains Area. (Kit
