The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS)
has now expanded into almost every county in Colorado. This is a project
where citizens of all ages measure and report precipitation on a daily basis to
map and track precipitation patterns across the state. We have kids in
elementary school right up to seniors well into their 80s. Several of our
neighboring states have also recently joined our project. You can access
this information at any time at: http://www.cocorahs.org
Also,
additional recent and historic climate information for Colorado, including
agricultural weather information from the COAGMET network is available via the
Colorado Climate Center at http://climate.atmos.colostate.edu
More
volunteers needed: We are always looking for more weather
volunteers. If you know of people in your area with an interest in
weather, or just with a sense of civic responsibility, please tell them about
CoCoRaHS. We have fliers available and can send you copies if you wish.
We also have press releases we can send out. The easiest thing is
just to direct people to our website where they can sign up on line by clicking
the Join Us button on the left menu bar. Or you can sign them
up yourself. Having internet access is helpful, but it is not a
requirement for participation.
Information and Training
Programs Where there is sufficient interest, we schedule informational
and training sessions for new volunteers. If you have a group of people
interested in your county, let us know and we will do what we can do to a local
training program. Online training is also available as well as a CD Power
Point presentation.
