1992, Vic and Margaret Ball established an internship with a major
gift to the American Floral Endowment. Their desire was to attract
students to Floriculture by making a meaningful work experience
in "production" part of their education.

Scholar Program
In
1975, Colonel and Mrs. Walter E. Mosmiller, Jr., provided the major
gift to establish a professional training program for selected,
motivated floriculture and environmental horticulture students interested
in a career as a retail florists, wholesaler or a career with an
allied trade company.

Week Experience $2,000 Grant + Paid Internship
Who
Is Eligible
-
Any student who is currently enrolled in a Floriculture/Environmental
Horticulture program at a 2 or 4 year college or University
in the U.S.
-
Any student who has maintained a "C" or better GPA
-
Internships
must take place while an undergraduate, unless the student plans
to enroll in a graduate program
Faculty Member Responsibilities

Evaluate
applicants carefully and honestly, considering ability, quality
of work and potential as a future member of the floral industry

Communicate
frequently with the Intern

Write a brief progress report (midway)

If
possible, travel to the Internship site to monitor progress
(up to $500 travel expenses are reimbursed)
The
Employer Responsibilities

Employ
the Intern at a fair market wage

Provide
Intern with a overview of the entire company

Provide
varied experience with crops, tasks & responsibilities

Provide periodic Intern/Supervisor discussions

Provide Intern time to meet with faculty member
-
Help
Intern locate housing (not responsible for rent)

Complete an Intern Performance Questionnaire at the conclusion
of training
