Wheat Insect and Disease in Colorado

Barley Yellow Dwarf:

According to Ned Tisserat, no one has reported the occurrence of barley yellow dwarf or significant aphid populations (oat bird cherry or cherry oat bird aphids) yet. If any of you are seeing BYD symptoms, I would suggest you send samples to the Colorado State University diagnostic lab for confirmation. Symptoms can be variable and include stunting, yellowing, and reddish purple discoloration of the leaf tips. However, these symptoms can be confused with other problems. We do charge for serological tests, but the cost is minimal and the information you get is worth it. It can help to verify why yields were not what was expected. Without the tests, you have no formal documentation. I would caution making field diagnosis of BYD without lab confirmation.
