    SHOOTING SPORTS

    4-03-08

The following is the most up-to-date information and should be noted for practice dates, procedures and contact information.

As Shooting Sports is a project in the General Projects area, any questions or concerns about the Shooting Sports project should be directed to Tom Fey and Debbie Anthony. For range safety reasons, every Shooting Sports member is required to participate in five (5) county sponsored practice/training sessions to participate in the County Fair Shoot-Off. State rules require those participating in Shooting competitions have their Hunter Safety Cards prior to the Shoot. There are several classes offered throughout the year at Sportsman’s Warehouse, Gander Mountain, area Recreation Centers or through the Colorado Division of Wildlife (303-291-7530).

Each discipline has primary leaders who can answer specific questions about their project and practice times. They are:

Eastern side of the county: Jim and Roberta Chase 303-622-6912
    Shotgun:  John Brassington                           303-654-1168
                      Dave Begler                                     303-710-2746
    Archery:   John Brassington                            303-654-1168
                     Dave Begler                                      303-710-2746
                     Jennifer Brassington                      303-853-4624
    Air Rifle/Air Pistol/.22: Bob Petty  303-457-0438
    Black Powder:  Dave Begler                           303-710-2746

Each Shooting Sports discipline will have a range fee of $10 per person or $15 per family to help cover the expenses. Archery, Black Powder and Shotgun are held on outside ranges and will begin in April depending on the weather. Archery will meet at the Adams County Fairgrounds at a range near the Grand Stand usually on Mondays and Thursdays.

    Air Rifle/Air Pistol/.22 Rifle:
Held at the indoor range at the Colorado Division of Wildlife Range and currently meet year round. The CDOW range only has 10 lanes available for shooters. Most relay times are about 45 minutes plus time to handle equipment. State time requirements are followed for each relay.  We have a large group this year so as the lanes fill up, shooters will be moved to the next relay time. Shooting practice begins at 6:00 p.m. These are the 2008 Shooting Dates through June 2008:
Tuesday, March 18th – begins promptly at 6 p.m. w/ Classroom followed by shooting.
Tuesday, March 25th – regular shooting practice
Tuesday, April 8th – regular shooting practice
Wednesday, April 16th – regular shooting practice
Tuesday, April 29th – regular shooting practice
Wednesday, May 14th – regular shooting practice
Tuesday, May 27th – regular shooting practice
Wednesday, June 11th – regular shooting practice

Any questions or information can be directed to Bob Petty at 303-457-0438.

    ROCKETRY

The 2008 Rocketry Fun Shoots will be held at the Adams County Fairgrounds park area.  Each shoot will begin at 9:00 a.m. with every member providing their own rockets, wadding, engines and ignitors. All participants must demonstrate and practice safety procedures throughout the shoots. You do not need to be enrolled in the rocketry project to participate.

Please bring water, comfortable clothes and sunscreen as you’ll be outside running in sunshine! The dates for each search are:
Saturday, April 12th. Rain date is Saturday, April 19th.
Saturday, May 17th. Rain date is Saturday, May 24th.
Saturday, June 14th. Rain date is Saturday, June 21st.
Saturday, August 2nd is the county shoot-off. Those who wish to compete to shoot at the State Fair Rocketry Shoot should notify Bob at the beginning of the Shoot. There is no rain date for this shoot.

If you need help with your rocketry project or have any questions or concerns, please contact Bob Petty at 303-457-0438.
