Entry Form

Rules

ALL 4-H exhibitors in all project areas will be issued a wristband and this wristband must be worn in order to show at the Adams County Fair.

Cavy Division Rules:
1. Exhibitor must own entries as of Saturday, May 30, 2009.
2. Exhibitor must turn in completed cavy record book, with parent and leader signatures, by 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2009.
3. The project year begins July 1, 2008 or the date of animal purchase, and ends on June 30, 2009.
4. Cavies will check in between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 6, 2009.
5. Showmanship will start immediately following check in at 11:00 a.m.
6. All cavies must have an ear tag that will be available at check in.
7. Exhibitor must supply own water bottle, food bowl with food, and fresh vegetables/fruits.
8. Pelleted wood bedding will be available unless exhibitor opts to bring own bedding.
9. Cavy cages must be cleaned by 10:00 a.m. each day. This will include fresh wood shavings/pelleted wood bedding and fresh food and water as needed.
10. No more than two cavies may be housed in the same cage/tub. The exception is in the 4-H Cavey Production Class.
11. All cavies must be brought to the judging table by the 4-H member or a designated representative. Cavies will be placed in the proper show cages according to ear tag on comment card. You may have a stand-in to exhibit your cavy only if you are involved in another 4-H function at the time of judging.
12. Best of breed cavies should remain in the Small Animal Barn for the duration of the fair. If the health and well-begin of the cavy is being impacted, cavy may be removed. All other cavies may be left for the duration of the fair at the owners’ discretion.
13. Checkout time is at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9, 2009. At that time, all record books, photographs, posters, awards, and cavies may be checked out.

Showmanship

SHOWMANSHIP
Showmanship will begin following check-in at 11:00 a.m.

CAVY BREED CLASSES

All animals must be entered on the Adams County Fair entry form under proper Section and Class. Permanent ear tag number must also be included. Due to growth of cavies, they will be placed in the following areas at the time of the show.

Junior – cavy up to four months old and weighing between 12-22 ounces

Intermediate – cavy up to six months old and weighing between 23-32 ounces

Senior – cavy at least six months old and weighing 33 ounces or more.

The 2006-2010 American Rabbit Breeders Association Standard or Perfection will be used for judging all classes, and determining general faults and disqualifications.

SMALL ANIMAL ROUND ROBIN
Friday, August 7, 2009
Check-In - 12:30 p.m.
Round Robin - 1:00 p.m.

The Champion and Reserve Champion showman in each age division in rabbits, dogs, cavies, and poultry will compete in the Small Animal Round Robin Contest on Friday, August 7, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. Each showman will demonstrate their skills with all four species. Participating showmen will bring their showmanship animals to the contest on Friday. Substitute cavies will be provided by the Cavy Superintendent. These substitute cavies will be used as needed to ensure the health and well-being of the showmanship cavies.

Dress a Cavy / Photo Diplay / Poster

Cavies should be dressed to reflect the fair theme, “One Great County One Great Fair.” Cavies may be shown in groups of up to four animals. Extra points will be awarded to exhibitors who also dress to reflect the fair theme.

4-H CAVY PHOTOGRAPH DISPLAY

Entry Fee: $1.00 Per Exhibitor

Bring your photograph(s) on Thursday, August 6, 2009. Photographs can be either 3” x 5” or 5” x 7” color or black and white. Photographs must be placed in a standing picture frame for display at the fair. Cavies should be photographed to reflect the fair theme, “One Great County One Great Fair”. Cavies may be photographed in groups of up to four animals. Extra points will be awarded to exhibitors who are photographed with their cavies and dressed to reflect the fair theme. Limit one photograph per cavy entry. Name, age, and club name should be displayed on the back right bottom corner of each photograph.

Bring your poster on Thursday, August 6, 2009. Poster display should be of any subject pertaining to cavies, such as type of food, housing, different breeds, etc. Poster size should be 22” x 28”. Name, age, and club name should be displayed on the front right bottom corner of the poster.

Cavy record books must be turned into the Extension Office or postmarked by 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2009. All record books must have both parent and adult leader signatures. Limit one photograph per cavy, if more than four cavies are entered. No more than five double-sided pages of photographs will be permitted.
