Western Catalpa (Catalpa speciosa)

A large tree, the Western Catalpa grows 40 to 60 feet or more in height.

Blossoms in spring are tropical in appearance, resembling orchids.

Leaves are dark green, large and heart-shaped. Fall color is briefly yellow, then dull brown. Seed pods resemble beans.

Seed pods last into winter.

Bark is ridged and furrowed.
