Foliage is medium to dark green with leaves that are alternate and pinnately compound and having five to nine serrated leaflets. measuring ¼ - 2½ long. Fall color is spectacular with shades of yellow, red and orange. | |

Flowers are small, only 2-2 ½ inches in diatmeter, and range in color from light to dark pink. They are very fragrant. Each flower generally lasts only one day, but the blooms are prolific and continue for weeks from June through July. Photo: Bob Bauer | |

Fruit matures in late August and provides a source of protein and vitamin C for wildlife during the winter. The bright red hips persist through winter, providing added seasonal interest. | |
