Admission and Standards of Performance
The admission requirements of the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Program (CMB Program) include a
bachelor's degree in any of the biological, biochemical, or physical sciences with a minimum of one year of biology, organic chemistry, physics, biochemistry and
mathematics through differential and integral calculus. Additional courses in cell biology, microbiology, developmental biology,
immunology, genetics, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, biophysics, physiology, or anatomy are considered
in evaluation for admission.
Promising students with deficiencies in entrance requirements may be accepted into the program, provided the
deficiencies are corrected during the first year. This may be accomplished by passing an examination,
by taking appropriate undergraduate courses, or by successfully completing graduate level courses that require the undergraduate
courses as prerequisites. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores for the general examination are required and one advanced
examination in an area of science is strongly recommended for consideration of financial aid. Three letters of recommendation are also required. Applications will be evaluated
by the Admissions Committee.
Foreign Student Applications
The CMB Program recognizes its obligation to educate students from foreign countries. These applicants must meet the same admission requirements as domestic applicants (including GRE requirements). In addition, they must show evidence of competence in the written and spoken English
language (TOEFL score of 107/263/625/ ibt/computer/paper or higher).
All foreign students who are accepted without support, must show evidence of adequate financial support
to be admitted to the graduate program.
Standards of Performance
The progress of each student is evaluated annually by the Academic Committee and by the student's Graduate Committee. Substandard performance in course work, laboratory rotation, or research is grounds for probation
or dismissal from the program in accordance with the
Graduate School guidelines. Each student must maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 in all course work taken during his/her graduate
program at Colorado State University.
