MASTER OF ARTS PROGRAM IN ANTHROPOLOGY

The MA degree in Anthropology is intended to serve two principal needs:

  1. Preparation for entrance to a Ph.D. program
  2. or preparation for professional service in one of the three anthropological subdisciplines practiced at Colorado State University.

In the latter case, that preparation takes place in the context of the student being expected to develop competence both as a general anthropologist and as a practitioner of one of the available specialty areas. Students have the option, within the foregoing constraints, of developing individualized plans leading to the award of the MA.

Students also have the option of choosing between writing a thesis or taking a comprehensive written exam as the principal demonstration of their preparedness for going on to further study or to professional service.
