| Title | Biological Control in Pest Management Systems of Plants |
| Investigator(s) | Hufbauer, RA; Norton, AP; |
| Department | Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Mgmt. |
| Objectives | Goal A: Import and Establish Effective Natural Enemies (Classical Biological Control). Objective 3. Determine systematics and biogeography of pests and natural enemies. Objective 6. Evaluate natural enemy efficacy and study ecological/physiological basis for interactions. Goal D: Evaluate environmental and economic impacts and raise public awareness of biological control. Objective 13. Evaluate the environmental and economic impacts of biological control agents. |
| Approach | A3. Hufbauer will evaluate phylogeographic relationships of several taxa including potential biological control agents (e.g. Ceutorynchus species for garlic mustard) and pests (e.g. Centaurea species). A6. Hufbauer will evaluate the effects of Gymnaetron tetrum on common mullein through removal studies. Norton will evaluate the impact of Mecinus janthinus on Dalmatian toadflax and evaluate the impact of Diorhabda elongata on Tamarix spp. D13. Norton will evaluate the impact of D. elongata and M janthinus on the surrounding plant community. |
