Mentoring
For students new to CSU, and current students who would like to share
their knowledge, develop helping and leadership skills
New students (protégés)
Are you nervous about how your first semester at CSU? Wondering what
it will be like attending classes in large lecture halls? Need answers
to other questions? If you answered yes … AAC has a fun way to make
your transition to CSU easy! Get a mentor through the Academic Advancement
Center (AAC)! You will be matched with an upper class AAC/CSU student
who can help ease your transition from high school student to life as
a CSU student. The Mentoring Program has been successfully matching
students since 1991! Help us continue the tradition as we welcome you
to our AAC and CSU community!!!
The mentoring program:
- Helps new freshmen and transfer students who want help with the
transition to life as CSU student
- Helps develop strong study skills for academic success
- Helps protégés learn about Colorado State University's services
and programs
- Helps fund student attendance to cultural events in Fort Collins
- Provides assistance to new students while they make the transition
to Colorado State University
- Gives protégés an opportunity to serve as a mentor their second
year at Colorado State University
Current CSU students (Mentors)
Students interested in being a mentor for the Academic Advancement
Center will:
- Develop leadership and helping skills
- Attend cultural events
- Help a peer succeed in college
- Be a role model to protégés on how to be an effective mentor
Mentors meet the following requirements:
- a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative GPA
- be an enrolled sophomore, junior or senior at CSU
- meet with his or her protégé for an hour a week for the duration
of the fall semester
There is also an opportunity one mentor and one protégé to earn a FirstBank
$1,000 scholarship each year for outstanding participation in the mentoring
program.
