What is the AAC?

FAQ for CSU faculty and Staff

Who can benefit from AAC services?

  • Students who are committed to working toward their degree and who want academic assistance to be better students.
  • Students who are eligible under federal guidelines

When is the best time to refer students?

We can't emphasize enough, the importance of students coming to AAC early in the semester. Our experience shows that many students who are referred here never come, or come too late to save their semester. Here are a few things you can do that might help them make the connection:

  • Have the student access our website from your office for information and print out the application.
  • Have the student call from your office to make an intake appointment, to which he/she will bring the completed application.
  • Call one of our retention specialists or the director while the student is in your office. We can chat with you and the student about his/her situation right then, answer any questions, and encourage his/her application. 970.491.6129
  • Walk the student over to our office to be introduced and to pick up an application. The application can be filled out in the office and the student can have an intake appointment immediately.

AAC fills most of its slots for each year by October 31st. Only limited spaces are available in the spring semester.

How does AAC decided whether or not to accept a student?

  • Students must be eligible
  • Their application and documentation must be complete. We do not provide services until their documentation is submitted.
  • Their GPA must not be so low that they cannot realistically be retained at CSU. Since our funding is tied to the percentage of our students who graduate from CSU, we cannot accept students who are certain to be dismissed.
