Brief Job Description Our intern program serves two purposes:

First, it will let you see and experience a "working" sports
broadcasting operation in the real world. Textbooks and instructors can
give you only so much. We hope your "hands on" experience at KSL will
serve you well in your college studies and eventually in your career.
Absorb and learn all you can. Ask questions!

Second, your internship will give you the chance to contribute to our
efforts and develop valuable skills as you do so. We use our interns in
a wide range of assignments and depend on their resourcefulness and
abilities. We expect you to respond to requests for assistance from any
and all Sports Department employees. Sometimes you will be assigned
tasks. Other times what you do will depend upon your initiative--your
ability to see a need that you can fill.

We encourage you to be a full participant in the Sports Department. That
includes contributing ideas and initiating preliminary research on
possible stories. You can be as busy and productive as you choose to be.
You are encouraged to be aggressive in your approach to your tasks.
Don’t just wait for the assignments that will come. Ask for feedback or
critiques on everything you do. If you don’t, you will miss one of the
most valuable opportunities you will have.

Over the course of your internship we hope you will be able to improve
your performance in the following skills:

* Basic sports broadcast writing * Research techniques
* Information gathering
* Packaging techniques
* Basic production**
* Interviewing techniques

** You will be given the opportunity to have stories you participate in
(including video that you have edited) on the air.

As part of your internship, you may be asked to do the following:

Run errands
Answer phones
Log tapes
Assist sports photographers on live shots
Arrange interviews
Assist sports reporters on stories
Telephone to gather information
Write VO’s and NAT-SOT’s
Search computer archive

Cover events for VO & NAT-SOT stories
Retrieve archive tapes
Conduct video-taped interviews
Working weekends is a must
Weekdays as needed
Some moderate lifting (10-30 lbs)
Anything else that will help the cause!
