Spring Advising Information
Sign Up Now for Spring Course Advising!
All JTC majors are required to meet with their faculty adviser prior to registering for Spring classes.
Faculty members now have sign-up sheets on their doors to schedule meetings with students beginning in late October. Sign up today – and plan to meet with your adviser before Oct. 31.
At your advising session, you can
- Obtain the advising code required to complete your registration on RamWeb
- Update your graduation checksheet
- Obtain recommendations for classes to take in Spring 2009
- Learn about special programs, including Study Abroad, Summer School, and the Departmental Honors Scholar program.
- Designate or change your concentration
- Ask questions about your outside option courses as well as double majors, minors and interdisciplinary study programs.
Spring 2009 registration dates are:
Monday, October 27 – Graduate, Honors Students
Tuesday, October 28 – Seniors
Friday, October 31 – Juniors
Friday, November 7 – Sophomores
Friday, November 14 – Freshmen
Monday, November 24 – New Students
Course offerings in JTC and other departments are now accessible on RamWeb. You should also obtain your registration priority date and time online and complete as much of the the Registration Ready process as possible without your advising code to avoid any delays in signing up for courses.
Freshman Mandatory Advising Meetings
Scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 5 or 7 p.m.
Are you a freshman already admitted to the JTC department?
If so, plan to attend one of these two REQUIRED advising sessions in Clark A-103. Attend either 5-6 p.m. or 7-8 p.m.
The sessions are designed to answer critical questions prior to meeting with your faculty adviser and signing up for Spring 2009 courses.
Topics will include:
- Picking one of the five concentrations with the department
- The importance of your advising code
- How to access your student records
- Becoming a JTC Departmental Honors Scholar
- How to register
- Meeting the university’s new Advanced Writing requirement
- The role of your academic adviser
- Your responsibilities as a student.
You will be able to designate your concentration at the meeting, or can do so when you meet with your adviser prior to the beginning of registration for freshmen on Nov. 14.
New Names for Degrees
Effective Fall 2008, the names of the undergraduate and master's degrees awarded by the department will change. The undergraduate degree will be called Journalism and Technical Communication, to make the department and degree names consistent. The name of the master's degree now will be Public Communication and Technology, reflecting the sharpened focus of the graduate program.

- Saturday, December 20 - Fall Graduation.
