All-America Selections has promoted the development, production and distribution of new
and better varieties of flowers and vegetables, specifically for North America, since
1948.
They have established trial grounds and test and demonstration gardens, in many areas
of North America, including Canada. These trial areas exist for the purpose of testing,
judging, rating and demonstrating new varieties, species, strains and kinds of plants.
The AAS awards, recommends and publicizes these new selections, according to their
general or sectional adaptation, use and perfection.

The All-America Selections for
1999:

The AAS Gold Medal Award is reserved for breeding breakthroughs.
These two garden zinnias have resistances to foliar diseases such as powdery mildew and
bacterial leaf spot that no other zinnia can claim. These resistances were proven at AAS
test sites across North America.
Look for these AAS Winners as seeds in retail stores, mail-order
catalogs or as bedding plants in garden centers or nurseries this spring. Ask for them by
variety name, 'Pin Up Flame' for example
