Take care of garden tools! Tools given good care now, will last longer and be ready for the next gardening season.
- Lawnmower oil should be changed, and the lawnmower blade sharpened.
- Digging tools: Use a wire brush to clean off mud clumps. Finish by pushing the tool in and out of a bucket of sand mixed with a pint of motor oil. (Used oil is fine.) This treatment leaves tools with a protective coat of oil.
- Wood: Mix one part of linseed oil with one part of turpentine. Apply two or three coats with a brush, and wipe off excess with a clean cloth.
- Grass and hedge trimmers and pruning tools: Spray WD-40 on the pivot points for lubrication and rust prevention. Remember to dry with a cloth after every use. Sharpen them or take them to a sharpening expert.
- Floating row covers should be washed, dried (not in the dryer), and neatly folded.
- Seedling trays and pots may be washed and stacked.
