Creative
and Performing Arts Award
These awards are distributed among students studying art, creative
writing, forensics, music, theatre, and dance.
Criteria: Applicant must demonstrate outstanding
talent in art, creative writing, forensics, music, theatre, or dance
and must maintain a 2.4 GPA.

Cross-Cultural
Understanding Scholarship*
This scholarship is made possible by contributions of friends of the English
Department.
Criteria: Applicant must be an undergraduate English
major with 60 credits or a graduate English major with 15 credits prior to receiving
the award (at least two semesters remaining). Selection is
based upon a demonstrated commitment to international/cross-cultural
issues and education, a GPA of at least 3.0 (undergraduate) or
3.25 GPA (graduate) and demonstrated financial need.

Judith
A. Dean Memorial Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was created in memory of Judith A. Dean,
a graduate of the master’s program in the Department of English
and prominent professional in the English teaching field and the
organizations that support it.
Criteria: Applicant must be a declared English
major with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

James J. Garvey Undergraduate English Language Scholarship
This scholarship is made possible by English Department emeritus
professor, James J. Garvey.
Criteria: Documented interest and coursework
(at least six credit hours) in English Language (declared language
concentration, teaching licensure concentration, or courses:
Introduction to the Study of Language; English Language for Teacher
I and/or II; Development of the English Language; and Teaching
English as a Second Language. An interest in diversity
must be demonstrated. First generation status preferred. Demonstrated
financial need and minimum 3.3 GPA in related courses. Transfer
students and English minors are eligible to apply if they have
the course equivalents.

James J. Garvey Graduate English Language Scholarship*
These two scholarships are made possible by English Department
emeritus professor, James J. Garvey.
Criteria: Enrolled in at least the second
semester of TESOL, Communication Development, Composition/Rhetoric,
or English Education, with six credits of language courses: Phonology/Morphology;
Syntax for ESL/EFL; Semantics, Pragmatics, and Discourse; Teaching
English as a Foreign/Second Language; Theories of Foreign/Second
Language Learning; Research in Teaching English as a Foreign/Second
Language; Workshop in TESOL; Special Topics in Linguistics; English
Phonetics and Phonology. First generation status preferred
and minimum 3.66 GPA in related courses.

William McBride Scholarship

Page
Jones Richards Palmquist Families Scholarship
Established through the Page Jones Richards Foundation by Michael
Palmquist and Jessica Richards-Palmquist, this scholarship supports
students who express themselves through the creative and performing
arts and who share a commitment to service and scholarship.
Criteria: Applicant must be a major in the Department
of Art, Music, Theatre, and Dance, or English (with a writing or creative writing concentration),
maintain a 3.5 GPA, demonstrate academic excellence as expressed through faculty
support and a focus on service through academic pursuits, and demonstrate financial
need.

Smith-Schamberger Literature Fellowship
This scholarship was established to honor Charles Smith and Edward Schamberger, who taught in the English Department.
Criteria: Recipient must be a full or part-time incoming graduate student majoring in English literature. Recipient has demonstrated exceptional promise or may be a continuing student who is a contributing member of the literature program. Minimum 3.0 GPA.

Tremblay-Crow Creative Writing Fellowship*
This scholarship was established to honor Charles the talent and inspiration of Bill Tremblay and Mary Crow who have taught for years in the English Department.
Criteria: Recipient must be an incoming Masters of Fine Arts graduate student whose writing shows exceptional promise or to continuing students who are contributing members of the MFA program and whose writing has shown exceptional growth. Minimum 3.0 GPA.

TESL/TEFL Scholarship*
This scholarship is given to an outstanding student in the TESL/TEFL
graduate program, funded by the Intensive English Program.
Criteria: Admitted to TESL/TEFL graduate program, 2 years
TESL/TEFL teaching experience, 3.25 undergraduate GPA and demonstrated financial
need.

John and Pat Venable CSUWA Scholarship

Donna
Weyrick Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1991, this scholarship honors the memory of Donna
Weyrick, a 1962 alumna in the Department of English. This endowed
scholarship is made possible by contributions from the Weyrick
family and friends.
Criteria: Applicant must be a declared English
major with 60 credits completed prior to receiving the award, have
at least two semesters remaining, possess exemplary character,
have a GPA of at least 3.0, and demonstrate financial need.

Ann Zimdahl Memorial Scholarship*
The two Zimdahl Memorial Scholarships are awarded in memory of
Ann Osborn Zimdahl, a 1981 graduate of the Colorado State
University M.A. TESL/TEFL program. Ann
taught in the Intensive English Program and contributed to the international
community of the University and Fort Collins. Ann was strongly
committed to cross-cultural understanding and enthusiastically
shared her love of new cultures with her students both here and
abroad.
Criteria: 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial
need. One
award is given to an outstanding graduate student in the TESL/TEFL program who
is committed to international education and language teaching for the second
year of study. The other award is given to an outstanding
graduate student in their first year of study in any program in
English.
